About this Collection
Over the last 60 years, a rich body of literature has shown that gender-stereotyped expectations influence attitudes, behaviours, and perceptions of people in their domestic and occupational roles. Gender stereotypes even affect people’s life choices and possibilities. To date, much of this research has focused on understanding the content of gender stereotypes or outcomes of gender stereotyping in specific contexts – for example, in leadership, STEM careers, etc. More recently, researchers have begun to investigate gender stereotypes in broader terms – focusing on intersectional stereotypes, diverse gender identities, and cultural variability in gender stereotypes.

The aim of this Collection on Gender Stereotypes in the 21st Century is to explore the current status of the field and highlight innovative work on gender stereotypes. The Collection seeks, but is not limited to, contributions that address:
  • The changing nature of gender stereotypes over time
  • Cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural investigations of gender stereotypes
  • The impact of gender stereotypes in the workplace and in other environments
  • Contemporary gender stereotype research methodologies and methods
  • Research on diverse gender identities and intersectional stereotypes
  • Best practice and interventions to reduce gender-stereotyping
  • Future perspectives on the research field
  • Stereotypes in the contemporary life (e.g., reproductive autonomy, sexual harassment)
We warmly invite submissions that draw upon theories and concepts from a variety of disciplines, as well as contributions from all over the world. We encourage, but do not limit, authors to submit research and method articles, case studies, reviews, and opinion articles.

Keywords: Gender, stereotypes, stereotyping, self-stereotyping, implicit bias, cross-cultural studies, cross-disciplinary studies, gender identity, non-binary, intersectionality, diversity, inclusion, interventions, future perspectives
