The global agenda of ‘Education for All’ and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 both call for educational equity and equality, so that all learners can achieve their potential at any age. Equality ensures that all learners have the same opportunities. Equity gives different groups of learners and individual learners what they need, so they have equal access to those opportunities.
Equity is increasingly a cross-cutting theme in education research, drawing on relevant studies, knowledge and practice in other sectors, such as health policy and economics. Researchers and practitioners also often consider how intersections of class, race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and language impact educational equity.
We invite research contributions from both micro and macro contexts, in the form of comparative studies, case studies, methodologies, reflections, reviews and opinion pieces, and beyond. Research may come from academics, practitioners and policy-makers across all levels of education. We also welcome contributions from researchers and practitioners in other sectors who are exploring issues of equity and equality as they impact education and learning.
